Hala Yousif – Tradition and Modernity in Harmony
Rooted in Iraqi heritage and enriched by European influences, Hala Yousif creates textile art that transcends cultural boundaries. Her exclusive collection, A Scandinavian Tale of 1001 Nights, transforms the richness of Middle Eastern traditions into minimalist, contemporary designs. Through shimmering contrasts of silver and gold, her work bridges the worlds of tradition and innovation.
Hala Yousif is a textile artist whose work weaves vibrant influences from her life journey across the Middle East and Europe. Born in Iraq, her artistry is deeply rooted in the rich cultural heritage of the region, drawing inspiration from folklore, the ancient civilizations of Babylon, Sumer, and Assyria, as well as the intricate beauty of Islamic art.
Relocating to Sweden marked a transformative chapter in her artistic expression, where the stark contrasts of Nordic minimalism, the textures of ice and snow, and the play of light on reflective surfaces deeply influenced her designs. This shift gave rise to a unique aesthetic language that merges Middle Eastern traditions with Scandinavian sophistication.
In the Netherlands and Paris, Hala honed her expertise in advanced textile design techniques, integrating contemporary materials into her work. Her creations are a harmonious blend of Arabic calligraphy, intricate curves, and patterns from her heritage, paired with modern methodologies. Her signature collection, A Scandinavian Tale of 1001 Nights, captures the shimmering interplay of silver and gold, symbolizing the dialogue between tradition and innovation.
Now based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, Hala is the founder of Halle Design, a textile studio where she continues to explore new artistic possibilities, balancing cultural memory with modernity.
