Soft Interpretations in Pink No. 1
Forever fascinated by Roman amphorae, the Soft Interpretations in Pink series explores the later forms of this ancient tradition. Towards the end of the Roman Empire, amphorae remained the primary shipping containers. Unlike earlier examples, these later vessels appear hastily made, as if created with a distracted consciousness. There is something crumbled and post-glamorous about them. They seem to struggle under the weight of their own craft heritage. Perhaps they capture a moment of fading, an end of an era, a sentiment that resonates deeply with all of us, here and now.

The hot-mould technique represents a highly experimental, multi-stage approach to glassblowing. A fabric model is first sewn, after which a mould is constructed around it and heated to over 500 °C. A hot glass bubble is then inserted into the mould and blown. This extra-hot environment extends the material’s surface tension, producing intricate details and textures in the final glass artwork.

Dimensions Approximately: 46 x 18 cm
Materials: Blown Glass
